So much has happened since the last time I saw King Gizzard in Philadelphia. That show on 10/22/22 marked a swerve in my life’s path that I never could have expected. Just a couple of weeks before stepping into Franklin Music Hall for my first Gizz show, I’d registered the domain where you’re reading this blog post. It had only been four or five months prior to that when my obsession had begun. I’d listened to their music here and there from around the time Trey Anastasio started talking about his new favorite band, but the music hadn’t stuck me right away. When it did stick, the hook went in deeply.

King Gizzard. Detroit. Acoustic. Boats. Vinny. Microtonal. "Make 'em all blue, T!" Shots. A nursing mother. Amby on top of a truck. Donald Trump. Security chasing Joey through the venue. More shots. The morning after, it all feels like a fragmented dream from the mind of an obsessed Gizzard fan. It went by in a flash, but it was real. Really, really real.

North American Tour Recap: Toronto

The Book: North American Tour Guide 2024

The first section of the guide is released NOW and includes information for the tour opener at The Anthem in Washington DC through the Gorge (Washington state) stop on September 14th.

This project started as it always does with me: on a Reddit thread at three in the morning answering obscure questions about King Gizzard. I was reading a thread right around tour announcement and ticket sale time, asking questions about the venues, how to arrange travel, and more. And then it hit me. Han-Tyumi is basically the Michelin Man: why not make a Gizz-centered guide for wayward travelers? I ran this idea by a few other site volunteers and soon we were sketching out our plan.

As we get closer to the second leg of the tour on November 1st, we’ll have more to share, so check back!

Boarding Instructions For Flight B741

King Gizzard’s twenty-sixth studio album Flight b741 is nearly here and as to be expected there’s a lot of hype around it. Here’s the rundown for those out of the loop.

The album is coming out on August 9th, 2024. A single vinyl variant will be available from p(doom) Records on July 9th at 6am PDT / 9am EDT / 2pm BST / 3pm CEST / 11pm AEST. That same day will see the release of the first single as well as a music video directed by Guy Tyrack (who previously did the video for “Black Hot Soup”).

Milan Show Recap: June 4, 2024

The grand finale of King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard’s Europe/UK 2024 tour brought the band to Milan, Italy. For the closing show of the tour, the boys allowed their crew to design the setlist for the evening. With their absolute discretion, the crew chose a broad range of songs spanning the band’s entire career. This included tracks from King Gizzard’s 2011 EP Willoughby’s Beach, all the way up to their forthcoming LP.

There is always a bittersweet atmosphere lingering in the air during the final night of a King Gizzard tour. After a series of high-octane shows, the sudden realisation that the tour is winding down can be quite daunting. Fortunately, Gizz’s 2024 appearance at Circolo Magnolia for “Unaltrofestival'' was monumental. Thus, the band concluded their Europe/UK 2024 run on a high note. This show’s setlist was packed with fan favourites, deep cuts, and previews of what is to come from King Gizzard’s twenty-sixth studio album.

Lyon Show Recap: June 3, 2024

The penultimate show of the European leg of King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard’s 2024 world tour brings the band to Lyon, France. Exactly one year on from “drag night” at The Caverns, the band reprised this event to make a bold yet important statement. The boys were in top form, resulting in a slew of tight renditions of beloved tracks.

To match their proud declaration of support for LGBTQ+ rights, Gizz opened with a bold synth-driven half-hour introduction. To kick the evening off, the boys delivered the live debut of “Theia”. In contrast to other renditions of songs from The Silver Cord, “Theia '' in Lyon felt more focused and directed. The seamless segue into “Extinction” demonstrates this perfectly. There were certainly moments that felt loose, where the band was able to experiment and layer up some intricate motifs and throw in some quotes from “Motor Spirit'' and “Extinction”. On balance however, this performance sounded more cohesive.
