EU Residency Infographic

words and infographic by rsprochaska

So what’s this post all about and why should you read it? Well to start, there’s a lot to unpack for a band that streams every show live and releases the subsequent soundboards shortly after, developing an official live catalogue that far exceeds their already elaborate and fantastically excessive studio output. I started tracking live Gizz after my first show at Radius, Chicago in October 2022, contributing to this website in early 2024, and compiled an infographic (link here) for the band’s first fully released tour in North America at the end of last year.

This 2025 European residency tour is my second attempt to visually analyze the musical performance of each show of a certain period in the band’s live history. A link to the full PDF of the infographic is available here.

Anatomy Of a King Gizzard Show

Updated Spring '25 I made this guide to address the tidal wave of new fans attending concerts for perhaps the first time. First, welcome to an incredible band known for out of this world live shows. Its quite a rabbit hole and we're a pretty friendly group. You’re going to have a great time attending live but if I see one more new thread in r/KGATLW asking what a King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard concert is like, I swear I’m going to compile all the answers to the common questions into an easily accessible document and publish it for all to read.
Oh wait, that’s exactly what this is.
Before we begin, some disclaimers. I’m from the US and I’ve never been to a major venue or show outside the US. Your mileage will definitely vary elsewhere in the world. Every suggestion I have is just that: a suggestion. Nothing I say should be taken as hard fact and your experience might vary greatly from my written word. DON'T use anything I say in here as justification for your actions and DO take all my advice at your own risk.
And yes, I do go over how to make sure you get a poster.

Brent's Recs, Vol. 9: Another SBD/AUD Matrix Edition

The penultimate edition of Brent’s Rec’s is a follow-up to Volume 4 from a year ago featuring early taper-made King Gizzard matrix recordings. Matrix recordings are a mix of the soundboard and an audience recording. In King Gizzard’s case, there are 11 known taper made SBD/AUD matrix recordings from 2014-2019. All 11 known recordings were made by only a handful of US tapers. The soundboard recordings for these shows were not officially released, so the tapers were likely permitted to plug directly into the soundboard. I didn’t want to end this series without one more shoutout to those early King Gizz tapers, and to remind readers of some great shows that may not be on their radar. This edition features the six remaining matrix recordings not highlighted in Vol. 4 last year. Also in this edition after the Brent’s Recs, there is another Wishlist of archival shows in the hopes the band will one-day release more recordings. First up though are some wonderful matrix recordings.

Brent is creator of the King Gizzard Live Spreadsheet and a KGLW.net collaborator. He is @Gizzhenge here and Bluesky and (u/yebrent) on Reddit. These recommendations are the best combination of complete recordings, in high quality, of the band in their top form.

Brent's Recs, Vol. 8: Many Thanks, and a Plea

Recommending the very best live King Gizzard recordings.

Thank You, Tapers!

2024 was a monumental year for fans of live King Gizzard, with the launch of the official livestream and bootlegger downloads of every show from both the stellar 2-leg US summer/fall tour. I know it's been said a million times already, including a bunch of times by myself in other forums and media, but it really can’t be said enough: Thank You King Gizzard for such an amazing gift these full show streams have been! And to make them free and part of the official bootlegger program is above and beyond what even the most altruistic bands have done for their fans. King Gizzard should be more widely praised for sharing their live recordings with their fans, while finding a way to make it work economically.

Seek Electricity: Reflecting on 10/22/22
View from the balcony at Franklin Music Hall on 10/22/22
Singin’ through you to me/thunderbolts caught easily/shouts the truth peacefully/Electricity

My first King Gizzard show was on 10/22/2022 at Franklin Music Hall, just a week after I had purchased the domain KGLW.net. Lightning has crackled through each and every day since. We’re talking about the frenetic energy that makes life exciting, that attracts people across time and space, that powers us to create. This essay is a reflection on the ways that the circuitry has been in place to light up this machine all along. Looking back to my first show, the synchronicity was all there for me to see. So, this is also a prompt for you to consider the lessons you’ve learned and connections you’ve made thanks to this band, whether you recently saw your first show or you’re nearing triple digits.

2024 Gizzies — First Annual KGLW.net Awards
The Gizzies trophy image! depicting a golden gator holding aloft a golden nonagon, standing on a plinth with a plaque reading 'The Gizzies' (image by greylocke)

Welcome to the first annual KGLW.net Gizzies!

2024 saw many twists and turns with live debuts, multiple tours, new songs, and a whole new studio album. There was so much to digest as fans this year. To celebrate and remember what we’ve collectively experienced, we decided to recognize the finest moments of 2024.

We got our results from two different sources. We first ran an internal poll for KGLW.net staff: volunteers were asked a variety of questions ranging from “Best New Song” to “Best Stu Costume/Outfit,” which gave a wide array of results. The more interesting poll, however, was one that we released to everyone via Instagram, Bluesky and Reddit. In it we asked what the best show of the year was and what people’s favorite memories from the year were. In the end we had over two hundred and fifty responses!

There were some very close categories, with multiple tie-breaking votes needed. I can imagine that there were many tough calls for everyone. You may be shocked by some of these results!

Exit Musik Interview 2015-07-15 English Translation
The following interview by Jonathan Lopez was originally published on the French music site Exit Musik on July 15, 2015. This English version was translated by KGLW.net team member Jamie.

At first, they didn’t really take themselves seriously. Hence the name, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard; a bit ridiculous and hard to remember. But judging by the long list of journalists present on the day of the Paris International Festival of Psychedelic Music at La Machine du Moulin Rouge despite the scorching heat to interview Stu Mackenzie, a young Australian and above all singer-guitarist of the band, it seems the joke has become serious business.

King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard is a truly creative band and have produced a series of great albums in just four years, their latest concept album (Quarters!) being no exception. If Mackenzie acts like a man in a hurry when it comes to adding new entries to his discography, he knows how to be composed and affable when he’s bombarded with questions.

Let’s begin by talking about Quarters!. How did you come up with the idea for this album?
We’d just finished I’m In Your Mind Fuzz. They’re a little connected. We recorded them in the same studio, Daptone in New York, with the same gear, everything was fairly similar. But I wanted them to be different; they’re opposites in a way.
