Songs > Some Context > History

Consisting of a riff that should be more than familiar to any King Gizzard fan, “Some Context” opens the second story of Murder of the Universe: “The Lord of Lightning vs Balrog.” The entire track is the ending riff of “People-Vultures” with the sound of crows cawing over it — bringing to attention that this story takes place in the same universe as Nonagon Infinity. While many songs from Murder of the Universe were planned in advance on the band’s whiteboard, “Some Context” is missing from the lineup. It was released on Murder of the Universe on June 23rd, 2017.

“Some Context” is a part of Jason Galea and Ben Jones’ music video for “The Lord of Lightning vs Balrog” released on May 30th, 2017. It’s accompanied by footage of the “People-Vultures” music video played on an old TV surrounded by burning candles.

“Some Context” saw a live debut on 2017-09-23 and was played throughout the end of 2017, usually as a set opener. Since then it has rarely been played — showing up during encores for the band’s fully microtonal shows on 2021-02-23 and 2021-02-24 with Leah Senior.
