Focusing on the subject of arguments and their effects on people, “Dirt” is a poetic, peaceful acoustic number written and led by Joey. It was released on November 13th, 2015 with an instrumental version with a longer outro releasing as part of the deluxe edition of Paper Mâché Dream Balloon on October 29th, 2021.

A demo for “Dirt” can be found on Demos Vol. 1: Music To Kill Bad People To. This version is slower and much more psychedelic, with sparse but heavily modulated instrumentation. The only difference to the lyrics is that the second chorus isn’t shortened like on the studio version.

“Dirt” made its live debut on 2019-10-11 at Carlswerk Victoria in Cologne, and was played once more that year at La Riviera in Madrid on 2019-10-18. These versions were fully electric and stayed close to the original. While the song was not played in 2020, it returned during the band’s acoustic show at the Brunswick Ballroom in Naarm (Melbourne) on 2021-12-13. It would then be played on 2021-12-19 and a year later on 2022-04-13. These acoustic versions are even closer to the studio version than the already faithful 2019 performances.
