One of the shortest songs King Gizzard has ever released, “ABABCD” (also stylized as “Ababcd.” and “ABABCd.”) is Joey’s theme song for the show of the same name and touts how the program will blow your mind.

ABABCd. was created by Banalrama Studios and consists of twenty-minute episodes with four to six different musical acts playing their songs on specially designed sets. The title refers to song structure. King Gizzard appeared on the show for the third episode with a performance of “The Raid” shot on 2013-10-16 at Red Bennies in Naarm (Melbourne). Banalrama would then release a second video (labeled “episode three — part two”) featuring a performance of “Head On/Pill” from that same concert. Host Nick Clarke would state in 2016 that their performance was one of his favorites from the show.

There are actually two different mixes of the song. The version heard in the intro of the show features louder screeching guitar, while the studio version lowers the volume. A great way to hear this is by focusing on the left channel. The song was the first Joey-produced piece in King Gizzard’s discography and was officially released on March 7th, 2014 as part of Oddments.

“ABABCD” has not been played live.
