At this point in the band's career its a strange ask to try and judge a single show from a tour that was almost unchanging throughout. For that reason only one orchestra show per continent was livestreamed (three total), and this is one of them so it obviously has that going for it. I don't think theres much contest for best orchestral show venue against the iconic Sydney Opera House; this was my first time seeing anything more than a solo music act in this room and it did not dissapoint. I was certainly satisfied at the quality of the sound even two rows from the back (unlike commenters seen from other shows complaining the acoustic instruments were too buried by the band). This was night 2 of the run, so everything was tested and warmed up, and as a bonus the orchestra was conducted by Chad Kelly who actually arranged the music being played — a very nice touch missing from other locations. Arguably not the greatest intermission jam + non orchesta song choice, but still good.
Most importantly just a very strong, loving, homecoming vibe at this show being the beginning of the first real, complete headline tour in Australia for six years. Everyone in the room was excited, and we all knew why. In the wide spectrum of King Gizzard show experiences, this was a singularly great one.
