This is the second show of the day following a semi-acoustic show featuring Ty Segall & Christian Peslak. Wah Wah and Robot Stop were introduced as a new songs and contained alternate lyrics. After The River, Stu and Joey passed out water and mentioned his fingers had pruned with sweat. Danger $$$ was played at the request of an audience member. Before Am I In Heaven?, Joey and Stu ask for another audience request, only to have Ambrose to interject, “you’ll have what your given.” Between Heaven and Pill, Stu sprayed the audience with water. |

Between I’m In Your Mind Fuzz and Evil Death Roll Stu thanked the crowd in Portuguese. Invisible Face was incomplete. Only Part 1 of the The River was played. Wah-Wah contained quotes from The River.
KGLW.net Staff Notes: We have attempted to clean up the audio to remove the overlapping audio from the end of Mind Fuzz and beginning of Evil Death Roll and minimize the hum throughout the recording. |

Before Digital Black, Stu asked the crowd if anyone was at the band's previous show in Atlanta, followed by Cavs briefly teasing Moby Dick. Hot Wax, which was played for the first time known since 2016-05-14 (199 show gap), was performed at the request of a fan who asked the band after their previous show if they could play it. Billabong Valley was dedicated to "all them abandoned kitties next door". Sleep Drifter contained a Honey intro tease. After All Is Known, Joey shouted out an audience member's 21st birthday and brought them on stage. Only Part I of The River was played, and it contained a brief blues intro. Wah Wah was played for the first time since 2016-12-09 (138 show gap) and contained The River quotes and teases. As the band moves into Wah Wah, Stu, Joey, and Amby take a moment to extemporize about the band’s ability to chill hard, and Stu’s inability to chill. Unlike most versions of Wah Wah, this rendition serves as a nice breather before segueing back into The River. |
643 |
This was a fully acoustic show (except for the electric bass), the fourth such show in the band’s history ( December 13, 2021, December 19, 2021, April 13, 2022). Scheduled opening band Kamikaze Palm Tree’s set was cancelled due to an inclement weather warning. Lonely Steel Sheet Flyer was played for the first time since May 8, 2022 (81 show gap). Muddy Water featured Amby on sax. The River (#1) contained Wah Wah teases. Wah Wah was unfinished. The River (#2) contained Wah Wah and Ice V teases. Amby dedicated Let Me Mend the Past to his father, Broderick Smith, who passed away recently. Following The Bitter Boogie, the band teased “Stairway to Heaven” (Led Zeppelin) and improvised a short bluegrass tune. Following The Wheel Stu briefly left the stage; while awaiting his return Joey quoted Superbad, stating he felt like Steven Glansburg and then teased “Taylor” (Jack Johnson), Amby quoted “Beyond the Sea” (Bobby Darin) and Joey teased and quoted “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” (Jet). Presumptuous featured Stu going around to every band member and giving them a sip of champagne, as well as spraying champagne on the crowd. Most Of What I Like was played for the first time since June 1, 2022 (70 show gap) and was dedicated by Joey to his partner Edith (Amby’s sister), had Stu and Amby sitting on piano together, and contained “Praise You” (Fatboy Slim) quotes/teases. Her and I contained teases of Am I In Heaven?, “España cañí” (Pascual Marquina Narro) and Blindness (The Fall). Slow Jam 1 and Sense were on the written setlist as the final 2 songs but were not played.
KGLW.net Staff Notes: Fans of stage banter should check out this show, as the band, especially Stu, was in a talkative mood. Discussions included the band’s ability to chill hard, how acoustic nights are like days off for Cavs to drink, and even theorizing why Stu might be more talkative tonight.

Rattlesnake contained Honey teases and Sleep Drifter teases/quotes. Honey contained Rattlesnake teases and Sleep Drifter teases. Shanghai featured a Grow Wings and Fly “let’s get real high” jam. Stu teased “Voodoo Child (Slight Return)” (Jimi Hendrix) during the leadup to Invisible Face. Invisible Face was played for the first time since June 6, 2017 (313 show gap) and was performed in full for the first time. Wah Wah contained The River teases. Ice V contained "Ain’t It Funky Now" (James Brown) teases. Self-Immolate featured a drum solo by Cavs, during which Amby burned his copy of the setlist. This show was released through the Official Bootlegger program as part of Live in Chicago '23.
KGLW.net Staff Notes: Invisible Face appears in setlists 40 times prior to this show. Of these, 29 have no recording available and one recording cuts off before the end of the song. The remaining 10 are all complete recordings of unfinished versions in which only the first two verses are performed. Based on these facts and the comments made by the band at this show, KGLW.net staff believe that the unavailable versions were also unfinished and that this is the first complete performance of Invisible Face. If anyone has conclusive evidence to the contrary, please contact KGLW.net staff at [email protected].

The Dripping Tap contained a The River jam with an Ice V tease. The River contained Hell's Itch teases and Wah Wah quotes/teases. Wah Wah contained The River quotes & teases. Hot Water had lyrics changed to Time to Party and contained "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love” (Solomon Burke) quotes. Gaia was unfinished.
KGLW.net Staff Notes: The first tease in The River could be noted as a tease of Hell’s Itch or Chang’e, as the riffs in both songs are basically identical. It was decided that since there is no indication of what the band’s intent was, the main difference is the instrument the riff is played on. Since the riff is played on guitar in Hell's Itch and keyboard/synth in Chang'e, with the tease in question being played on guitar, it was noted as a tease of Hell's Itch. It is ruled out as the also nearly identical Witchcraft/Flamethrower riff as those songs are in minor keys, while Hell's Itch/Chang'e are in major keys and match how the tease was played in this instance. |
